Watch out for school children

Big Island police are reminding Hilo motorists that one-way traffic patterns on parts of Waianuenue Avenue and Kapiolani Street will be in effect starting this morning because schools are opening for the fall semester.

From 7:15 to 8 a.m. on school days, traffic on Waianuenue Avenue will be one-way in the makai direction between Komohana Street and Kamehameha Avenue. During the same hours, traffic along Kapiolani Street will be one-way in the Puna direction between Waianuenue Avenue and Haili Street.

Police are also reminding all motorists islandwide to be on the lookout for students walking to and from schools.
